Telecoms Industry Converges on London
At the end of March, the International Engineering Consortium (IEC) staged the second annual 21st Century Communications World Forum at the Design Centre in Islington, London. BT was the event’s official host sponsor for the second year.
Over 3,000 senior executives from the communications industry worldwide attended the event to learn more about the business and technology requirements for making convergent, carrier class IP communications a reality. Speakers included executives from across the industry, including operators, equipment vendors, analysts and technologists.
During the opening keynote address, Paul Reynolds said:“A huge amount of change has happened in our industry over the past 12 months with a remarkable amount of industry consolidation underway. Much of this consolidation – the coming together of fixed and mobile operators, or broadcasters and network providers, is what I see as the organisational preparation for a converged world.
“What we’re witnessing is an entire industry entering and coming to terms with a new era for our industry. This, I believe, is a defining period for all of us and because of that it’s turbulent and exciting, uncertain and compelling all at the same time. That’s because we’re all starting to realise that the change that’s with us is real and it’s non-refundable, non-exchangeable.”
IEC is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering technology and business progress worldwide in a range of high-technology industries. In 2007, the 21st Century Communications World Forum will be renamed C5 (Customer-Centric Converged Communication and Content) and will be held in the Fiera Milano Congressi in Milan, Italy 26-29 March. Telecom Italia will be the programme’s official host sponsor.
